The Loss Happens in a Yard, Not on the Highway

Vibration, Static and Humidity Break Gear Nobody Dropped

Technology freight has a failure mode no dock inspection catches: it arrives looking perfect and then does not power up. Road vibration is not an event, it is hours of continuous low frequency input, and it works connectors loose in their sockets, fatigues solder joints under heavy components and stresses spinning drives in a way no drop test simulates. Lithium Batteries Pull Part of Your Load Into Hazmat

Almost everything in this industry now ships with a cell in it, and that quietly turns ordinary freight into regulated freight. Lithium ion cells and batteries shipped by themselves are UN3480, Class 9. Batteries contained in equipment or packed with equipment are UN3481. The lithium metal versions are UN3090 and UN3091. The trap is a genuine exception that reads like an exemption. Class 9 does not require a placard on a domestic highway move, so a shipper sees an unplacarded trailer and concludes the shipment is not regulated. It is. The package marks, the shipping paper description and the tested packaging specification all still apply, and a receiver or an inspector who finds an unmarked package of cells has found a violation no matter what the outside of the trailer looked like.

State of charge causes the same confusion in reverse. The 30 percent charge cap that gets quoted constantly is an air transport rule for cells and batteries shipped on their own. It does not govern a domestic truckload. It does attach the moment any leg moves by air, including the expedited recovery of a part that is holding a build, so it is worth knowing which rule a shipment is living under before somebody promises a flight.

Damaged, defective and recalled batteries are a separate category and the rules tighten hard. A swollen pack, a unit pulled after a thermal event or a return of unknown condition cannot ride as normal Class 9 freight, it needs its own packaging approach, and it is forbidden in air transportation, which leaves ground as the only path. A Data Center Delivery Is an Appointment Inside a Building

Deliveries to colocation, enterprise data centers and central offices do not end at a loading dock, and treating them like a dock delivery is the most common way a rollout slips. Our customer requires a named security certification from the carrier. Can that be met?

Tell us which one and it gets checked, not claimed. Named security programs are real in this cargo, and some technology customers write one into a routing guide before a lane can be tendered at all. We do not advertise a certification for the network on a web page. The requirement goes against the carriers that would be assigned to your lane, and you get a straight answer in writing before anything is booked, including the answer that a given standard cannot be met on that lane. Finding that out in a routing guide audit after the freight moved is the expensive version.

Our product is assembled in Mexico. Can you handle the crossing and the delivery?

Yes. The South Texas corridor is home territory and the northbound leg is planned inside your delivery window rather than treated as a separate project. That matters more on technology freight than on most cargo, because a crossing adds the two things this load tolerates least, a handoff and a wait in a yard. Customs broker timing, the yard transfer and the northbound handoff get scheduled so a high value trailer is not the one sitting overnight on the wrong side of a bridge, and the destination appointment is set knowing when the freight actually clears.
