What Is an RGN Trailer?
An RGN — Removable Gooseneck — is a heavy-haul trailer whose front end detaches, letting the deck drop to the ground and form a ramp. Tracked and wheeled machines drive on under their own power, no crane or dock needed. RGNs carry the heaviest routine equipment loads, expanding with additional axles as weight climbs.

When Dobie Assigns an RGN
Ground-level loading is the RGN’s advantage: excavators, dozers and loaders walk on. We assign RGNs when the machine is heavy (roughly 40,000 lbs and up), tracked, or unable to climb ramps onto higher decks. If your machine is lighter and legal-height, a step deck or lowboy may do the same job for less — the spec decides.

RGN if the machine must drive on from ground level or the weight demands multi-axle configurations; lowboy when the machine can be loaded from a ramp or dock and height is the main constraint. Send the model — we answer specifically.
How much weight can an RGN carry?
Standard 3-axle RGNs handle roughly 40–50k lbs; adding axles extends capacity well past 100k for specialized moves. Weight determines the exact configuration and permits.
Is an RGN more expensive?
Somewhat — RGNs are specialized equipment in high demand. When ground-level loading is required there is no substitute; when it isn’t, we quote the cheaper trailer that still fits.
Can non-running equipment load onto an RGN?
