What Is LTL Freight?

Less-Than-Truckload shipping combines smaller freight shipments that do not require an entire trailer into shared transportation capacity.

LTL carriers consolidate many customers’ shipments into one trailer, routing them through terminal networks. You pay for the space and weight you use — economical for a few pallets — in exchange for more handling and longer, less predictable transit than a dedicated truck.

The break-even is practical: as a shipment grows past several pallets, or when handling risk and schedule certainty matter, FTL becomes the better buy. Dobie’s freight service is built around FTL and specialized loads, and quotes the right mode for the shipment honestly.
