What Is a Bill of Lading?
A Bill of Lading is an important transportation document used to record shipment information, pickup condition and delivery details.
In practice, the BOL is the document the driver and shipper sign at pickup and the receiver signs at delivery. For vehicle transport it doubles as the condition report: existing damage is noted (usually with photos) before the vehicle moves, and the delivery inspection is checked against it.
Why it matters to you: the BOL is your protection. If a dispute ever arises about condition at delivery, the signed BOL from pickup is the reference document. Read it before signing at both ends, and keep your copy.
